Songlist:
Falling In Love -
(2:27) BMI
This song is
dedicated to all my friends who have recently found love. Like me, I hope they
enjoy it for a long time. Mike Campbell, lead and harmony vocals & guitar;
Jeanene Walker, harmony vocals; John Nyman, percussion; Stu Schulman, keyboard,
bass, pedal steel, electric guitar.
Back In The Clydesdale - (4:13) BMI
I have long
enjoyed the finer qualities of rich, good tasting DARK beers. I have never
understood why so many Americans prefer weak, flavorless brews. I believe it
must be brainwashing by television commercials. Mike Campbell, lead vocals &
guitar; Matt Hammer & Loren Arment, harmony vocals; G.W. Keyl, banjo; George
Mancini, trombone; Stu Schulman, bass.
Burn That Bridge - (2:45) BMI
For many years I
have performed at numerous bluegrass festivals in Alaska. This is my first
attempt at writing a song in this genre. Mike Campbell, lead vocals; Matt
Hammer & Loren Arment, harmony vocals; Tom Bryan, guitar; Ken Terry, banjo;
David Mannhimer, fiddle; Stu Schulman, bass & dobro.
Hate To See You Go- (3:37) BMI
This song was
written for my oldest daughter as she was preparing to go off to college.
Mike Campbell, lead vocals & guitar; Jeanene Walker, harmony vocals; Stu
Schulman, electric piano, acoustic guitar, Hammond organ, drums and bass.
All My Troubles Go By
- (3:56) BMI
Once in awhile,
I get the urge to write something inspirational. I got the basic idea for this
song while working out in the Aleutian Islands and missing the love of my life.
Mike Campbell, lead vocals & guitar; Jeanene Walker, harmony vocals, Matt
Hammer & Loren Arment, harmony vocals; Robert Tornfelt, cello; Heather Adrian,
violin; Stu Schulman, dobro.
Iditarod - (3:50) BMI
Here's a silly
song I wrote to put a little humor into "The Last Great Race". I would love to
see this as a cartoon video. Mike Campbell, lead & harmony vocals & guitar;
Stu Schulman, acoustic guitar, dobro, drums and bass.
Seventh Son
- (2:57) BMI
My son, Alex,
was born on 2/2/82 at 8:32 am on a Tuesday. I've counted myself a lucky
man to have such a wonderful son. I wrote this song for all the
numerologists out there who believe that numbers are imbued with luck.
Mike Campbell, lead & harmony vocals & guitar; G.W. Keyl, banjo; Karl Pasch,
penny whistle; Stu Schulman, bass.
Turnagain Waltz
- (3:15) BMI
I began writing
this song while driving south from Anchorage on the Seward Highway. The first
forty miles of the drive takes you along the coast of the Turnagain Arm of Cook
Inlet. It seemed like a waltz to me. Mike Campbell, lead vocals & guitar;
Jeanene Walker, harmony vocals; Heather Adrian, violin; Stu Schulman, electric
piano, bass & dobro.
Whiskey John - (3:06) BMI
A silly tale of
a whaling adventure that turned out better for the whale than it did for the
harpooner. Mike Campbell, lead vocals & guitar; Matt Hammer & Loren Arment,
harmony vocals; G.W. Keyl, banjo; Stu Schulman, bass.
Shenandoah Roll On Home - (3:55) BMI
Many thanks to my friend Mike Marsh for sharing the
true story of the CSS Shenandoah and its harrowing journey around to world to
harass the Yankee whaling fleet in Alaskan waters at the close of America’s
Civil War. Mike Campbell, lead vocals & guitar; Matt Hammer & Loren Arment,
harmony vocals; Robert Tornfelt, cello; Heather Adrian, violin; G. W. Keyl,
banjo; Stu Schulman, electric piano and guitar.
Mars Outback -
(2:23) BMI
This song is a
light hearted look at what we might find whenever we look in far away places.
Mike Campbell, vocals & guitar; G.W. Keyl, banjo; Stu Schulman, bass.
First Kill - (4:15) BMI
A story of a
young man's inner battle between his conscience and the corporate greed of the
whaling industry. Mike Campbell, vocals & guitar; Karl Pasch,
penny whistle; Stu Schulman, bass.
Christmas Without Snow -
(4:39) BMI
I was working in
the lower forty-eight one Christmas season and was reminded that many parts of
the world do not have the snows that give the Yule Tide so much of its character
and charm. Mike Campbell, lead vocals & guitar; Jeanene Walker,
harmony vocals; Stu Schulman, bass, pedal steel, electric guitar, electric
piano, drums.
About the cover: The artwork on the cover is a stone lithography print entitled "Mars Outback". As with the artwork on my other album covers, my father, Charles W. Campbell, completed this piece in 1980 while he was living in Flagstaff, Arizona. My dad had a wild imagination and I believe he would have enjoyed this CD if he were still around.
Mars Outback animals were knitted by Tawmmie Campbell.
